In Norse and Anglo Saxon mythology the stag has connections with kingship. In the Anglo Saxon epic, Beowulf, the Heorot (Mead Hall) is described as, "the foremost of halls under heaven." The hall served as King Hrothgar's palace. Heorot means, "Hall of the Hart" or deer.
